Weekend Happenings

Wes and I headed to Charleston this weekend. Actually we were on Sullivan's Island for the weekend and did not leave the island until today to head home. It was a fabulous mini vacay. Much needed and the weather was absolutely wonderful - 72 degrees wonderful. My brother and his roomie had a little get together on Saturday to celebrate 2012 with their friends. One of Nick's friends smoked whole chickens, there was keg, beer pong competition, delicious sides (sweet potato casserole, crack potatoes, dips, tomato mozzarella salad, and the BEST banana pudding Wes and I have ever eaten - I could write a whole post on how amazing this puddin is - just delicious). One thing about getting older, everyone brings such wonderful food. I feel like we reached the age, where bringing a bag chips to a cookout is not a acceptable as it once was, everyone wants to show off what they can whip up in the kitchen. I made crack potatoes, Mississippi Sin, Sausage Dip, Pimento Cheese, Crack Potatoes, and Chocolate Chip Cookies ... perhaps I went a bit overboard. Nah, never.

Ah, so Friday morning before we left, I was doing some cooking and packing. Anyway, I haven't had much time nor the opportunity to hang out with Ethel and Lucy during the day. I wasn't even sure if they interacted during the day. I had thought that Ethel just stayed in the office and our bedroom during the day ... wrong.

Turns out Ethel enjoys getting on the dining room table as much as Jack did. What is it with our animals and that table? Lucy and Ethel have a game they play. Ethel gets on the table and Lucy tries to get her. Ethel runs up and down the table while Lucy sniffs her out. Then, Ethel will get up to the edge, Lucy will stick out her nose, and WHAM, Lucy gets a paw to the nose. For some reason - I think this is hysterical.
Having Ethel around has caused my inner Elmira to come out. I just want to hug her, squeeze her, carry her around the house. Ethel does not appreciate my inner Elmira. And because Ethel does not appreciate my inner Elmira, she has turned her attention to Wes. Wes does not try to squeeze her and hug her ... he just plays with her. So when we came home this afternoon, Wes immediately went to use the bathroom and she tried to follow him in. When she was shut out she took one look at me and started to claw at the bathroom door. SERIOUSLY KITTY?! Oh don't you worry, I can play the "play it cool" game. I WILL WIN YOU OVER AND MAKE YOU CUDDLE WITH ME. Ridiculous.

Lucy and Ethel

Wow. I have been slack! I hadn't realized it has been almost a MONTH since I last posted. I apologize - life has been has busy.
Let's see - where do I begin?

Christmas was one giant blur to be honest. I worked the 23rd and 24th so family time was a bit limited. However, it was actually nice spending time with my patients. One of my patients had been with us so long that I happened to have him over Thanksgiving. I told him he obviously was on Santa's good side, because he not only had me as his nurse for Thanksgiving but it looked like we were spending Christmas together too. However, I told him had to leave before the New Year, because I was going skiing. Turns out - he couldn't bare to be without me over a holiday, so he became well enough to go home. =)

Now, so important family news....
No I do not have any bling. Trust me, I would have been all over this thing if I had some sparkle sparkle to show off. ;) hahahaha.

Jack, our black lab, has a new home. He has gone to live with Wes's parents in Burlington. Unfortantly, things just weren't jiving between Lucy and Jack. We gave it a go but in the end, Jack staring at the wall because he is too scared to turn around and face Lucy was no way to live. I was all sorts of torn up about it BUT God works in wonderful ways. Once Wes's parents found out we were looking for a new home for Jack, they said they would take him. Talk about a blessing - I just started crying when Wes told me they wanted him. I mean he could not have gone to a better home. Please see below:

Check out all his Christmas presents .... I think Jack might have the best life a dog could ask for.
Well, it's been about a month since Jack has left us, and Lucy had been acting very depressed. She would sleep all day, well let's face it, I think she sleeps close to 18 hrs a day, and lately she has getting up to about 22 hrs. I told Wes, we need to get her a friend, because her babies weren't cutting it.
Clearly, another dog was out. Lucy does not play well in the sandbox with other canines. However, it occurred to both of us, she has the similar temperament of feline. She sleeps all day, she plays when she wants too, she acts like b**** at any given moment and if she feels like loving you - well she will be all up on you. She is exactly like a cat. As it turns out, good friends of ours are expecting a baby and moving homes and have a cat that needed a home. Win. Win.
Blog readers without further ado, I introduce to y'all:

Ethel Kitty Brumvia

Kitty wouldn't come out from under the bed for her picture - but don't worry tomorrow I am going to make her have a photo shoot.

Lucy and Ethel are getting along great! We are still on a trial period, but the way things are looking already - Lucy and Ethel will be stomping grapes and baking together in no time.
